Classic Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

I had the privilege of making 400 wedding favor cupcakes for my beautiful niece’s wedding last year.  This is the frosting that topped the White Sour Cream Almond cupcakes that were given to the guests at the end of the evening.

Classic VanillIa Buttercream Frosting

  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 1/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 Tablespoons half and half

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

Beat butter for a few minutes with a mixer with the paddle attachment on medium speed.  Add the powdered sugar and beat on lowest speed until incorporated.  Add vanilla extract, salt, and half and half  and  beat at medium speed for 3 minutes.  If the frosting is too thick, add more cream, a little at a time; if it’s too thin, add more powdered sugar.
